Products and services based on information and communication technology shall empower elderly people to live independently for longer.  In order to face the challenges of the demographic change and to stimulate the R&D process in this area, the transnational European funding activity Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP) was launched in 2008.

The first AAL Forum focussed on aspects of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme itself and presented national and regional initiatives in the field as well as innovation models and the socio-economic impact of AAL.

The Forum took place in Vienna 2009, September 29 – October 1, and was organised in cooperation with  the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP) and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT).
